Description
An electronics workshop with sound artist Radosław Sirko exploring how to transform wooden and metal boxes into unique noise-making instruments using piezoelectric transducers, springs, nails, screws, music-box mechanisms, and other objects that set the boxes into resonance.
The workshop will also introduce participants to soldering, prototyping, and building electronic circuits on breadboards, printed circuit boards, and in free-form configurations. The finished instruments will be routed through various guitar effects and connected to a mixer to amplify the signal.
The workshop is aimed at beginners and requires no prior technical or practical skills – only an openness to experimentation.
Instructor:
Dr Radosław Sirko – sound artist, music producer, cultural studies scholar, and curator. He regularly leads sound workshops and releases albums on a wide range of formats.
A graduate of the University of the Arts in Poznań, he holds a master’s degree in Comparative Civilisation Studies from Jagiellonian University and has completed studies at the Institute of Cultural Studies at the University of Silesia and the Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw. He has lectured, among other institutions, at the University of Information Technology in Katowice. He is a recipient of a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the Young Poland programme and a co-founder of the Audile Snow and Aural Prism labels.
He is the author of the film Pogłos/Reverberation and, under the name Duy Gebord, has performed live at festivals including Tauron Nowa Muzyka, Sacrum Profanum, and Cocart. He is a member of the music and activist collective DESTITUTE and a co-founder of Świetlica Dźwiękowa.
He has collaborated extensively with Glissando magazine, the Sound Art Forum in Katowice (Biuro Dźwięku Katowice), and the Katowice Bazar.
