Description
Captivating music, fascinating stories, and a touch of divine magic – the Baltic Opera Festival invites you to a unique family event: Richard Wagner's The Rhine Gold (Das Rheingold), presented in a special version for children prepared by the creators of the Wertingen Festival. This production opens the doors to the world of opera for both the youngest viewers and adults in a way that is remarkably accessible yet artistically refined.
The performance is directed by Daniel Schliewa – a young-generation German tenor, co-founder, and artistic director of the Wertingen Festival.

At the heart of the tale lies the legendary Rhine Gold – a treasure of immense power that grants dominion over the world. Guarded by the three Rhinemaidens (Woglinde, Wellgunde, and Floßhilde), the gold is stolen by the cunning Nibelung, Alberich. By renouncing love, he forges a ring endowed with extraordinary strength but marked by a destructive curse.
Thus begins a suspenseful adventure where gods, giants, and mythical creatures collide in a struggle for power, greed, courage, and responsibility.
This children's opera intentionally creates a narrative suited to its audience's age. The duration, simplified dialogue, and vibrant staging allow newcomers to understand the complex plot. Meanwhile, Wagner’s music is preserved through selected arrangements, providing a suggestive and powerful first contact with the world of grand opera.
