ŁUKASZ MARCINIAK, ISABELLE DUTHOIT

Duthoit / Marciniak – The idea for the improvised musical performance Oiseaux exotiques emerged when we met at the Spontaneous Music Festival in Poznań in 2025. At the time, we asked ourselves a question that we now want to explore through this performance, while also posing it to the audience taking part in it: “What animal are you inside?”

Łukasz Marciniak – guitarist, composer, and improviser. He performs with Trio_io, a contemporary chamber music ensemble. He is a member of El Topo, a group exploring the intricacies of strings and the risks of drums and cymbals. He is also a co-creator of Perforto, a string duo for prepared piano and electric guitar, and of the recently formed trio Attack of the Mugatu, featuring guitar, cello, and double bass. He has composed music for films and performances. In his solo work and free improvisation concerts, he develops his own language of articulation and has collaborated with Mia Zabelka, Radim Hanousek, Jaap Blonk, Emil Gross, Wojciech Brzoska, and Edith Steyer, among others.

Isabelle Duthoit – born on 6 December 1970, lives in Mhère, France.

She studied clarinet at the CNSM in Lyon in the class of Jacques Di Donato. She soon turned towards contemporary music, collaborating with numerous composers, before finding her artistic home in free improvisation. She performs and collaborates with many artists on the international experimental music scene, including Angelica Castello, Martin Tétreault, Franz Hautzinger, Hamid Drake, Michael Zerang, Phil Minton, Thomas Lehn, Lê Quan Ninh, and Andy Moor. She is a member of the ensemble Hiatus and has performed at numerous festivals in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Russia, Europe, and Japan.

Always deeply interested in the voice, over the past 20 years she has developed a unique and highly personal vocal technique. Language before language. Glossolalia. A song rooted equally in breath and in crying.
