Project Butterfly Nominated!
News from Vienna - our opera co-production as part of Project Butterfly has been nominated for the International Opera Awards 2026! The final results will be announced on November 21 during the gala at the MusikTheater an der Wien.
The European Project Butterfly was co-realized by three opera houses: Teatro Comunale in Modena, Opera BOX in Helsinki, and the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk. It was a project focused on sustainable development and developing ecological solutions in opera production.
Its outcome was a three-act performance created as part of Project Butterfly. Each act was prepared by a different country and centered around a specific element: Earth (Italy), Air (Finland), and Water (Poland).
For the Polish act, titled Lake of Ashes, the music was composed by Beniamin Baczewski, with a libretto by Jagoda Kościk (Jagoda Jagson). The material was based on short stories written by students of the 6th High School in Gdańsk. The set design and costumes for all operas in the project were created by Joanna Borkowska.
Project BUTTERFLY is supported by the Creative Europe Programme and co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund - a state purpose fund.
