Three countries, one rehearsal
The rehearsals for the performance created as part of the international Project Butterfly have begun. The artists meet in rehearsal rooms located hundreds of kilometers apart, and thanks to modern technology, they participate in a joint rehearsal.
This innovative solution is made possible by modern technology (the LoLa system – Low Latency AV Streaming System), which allows for real-time transmission of both image and sound. In each of the countries involved in the project (Italy, Finland, and Poland), musicians and soloists are present in the rehearsal rooms. The image and sound are transmitted in real time.
About the Butterfly Project
The full name of the project is Project BUTTERFLY. Boosting environmental awareness in opera creation. It involves three opera theaters: Teatro Comunale di Modena (Italy), Opera Box (Helsinki, Finland), and Opera Bałtycka in Gdańsk (Poland). Its goal is to promote sustainable development and develop ecological solutions in the production of performances.
As part of the project, an opera performance consisting of three acts is being created. Each act is prepared by a different partner country. Each part also has a different thematic focus: earth (Italy), air (Finland), and water (Poland). The opera's libretto was based on stories written by young people. High school students from the VI High School in Gdańsk worked on the plot of the Polish act, which was translated into a libretto by Jagoda Kościk (Jagoda Jagson), with music composed by the composer from Gdańsk, Beniamin Baczewski.
Italy – Finland – Poland
The performance Hengitä (Breathe) / Jezioro Popiołów / Perla di Speranza (Pearl of Hope) will be shown for the first time on stage in April (11th and 13th) at the Teatro Comunale in Modena. A few days before the planned presentation, all the artists will meet for several joint rehearsals, this time “live.” However, not only the musicians and soloists participating in the project will fly from Poland to Italy, but also the high school students – the authors of the story presented in the Polish act.
On May 2nd and 3rd, the Finnish premiere of the performance will take place, and on May 31st and June 1st, Hengitä (Breathe) / Jezioro Popiołów / Perla di Speranza (Pearl of Hope) will be available on the stage of the Opera Bałtycka in Gdańsk.
