The Ballet of Baltic Opera in Gdańsk was formed in 1949 by Janina Jarzynówna-Sobczak, an outstanding dancer and choreographer associated with Gdańsk. It has been operating in its current form since September 2016, and is headed by Wojciech Warszawski as the manager and Izabela Sokołowska-Boulton as the deputy.
The ballet group includes three groups of artists: soloists, i.e. leading dancers, who mainly play the main roles in performances, corypheuses, will be artists creating smaller but no less important roles than the soloists, and dancers forming corps de ballet, i.e. the basis of the entire ballet team.
